The Federal Government announced changes to the rules for applying for Citizenship, from April 2017. While attempting to get legislation through the Parliament, it stopped the processing of Citizenship applications from this time, anticipating the passage of the legislation.
An enormous backlog of applications was created.
As Parliamentary events turned out, the relevant legislation did not pass the Senate, and lapsed in October 2017.
It is good news however, that the huge backlog of applications caused by the pausing process, is now far less.
A client should now expect a Citizenship application to be processed in 6 months time.
